April 19, 2022

The renovation of PVUMC is finished and the results are wonderful!  PVUMC is looking to the future as a place to worship, serve and belong.

Renovations Updates

Pleasant Valley UMC is undergoing renovations to enhance our building and grounds as a place to worship, serve and belong.  The original chapel was built in 1894 with additions of office/classrooms in 1945 and sanctuary/fellowship hall in 1991.  Phase 1 and 2 renovations are  completed including a much improved parking lot, new AC (heat pump capability can be added) and carpet in the Chapel , a new entry door for the Chapel, upgraded exterior lighting, and repairs to exterior windows and siding.

April 5, 2022 Update: Renovations of the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall have been completed. Construction of the access ramps to the Sanctuary and Chapel is underway.

March 13, 2022 Update:  New cabinets and countertops are being installed in the Kitchen with original sinks and fixtures to follow. Fixtures are also being installed in the new ADA bathrooms. The main holdup now is the arrival of new ceiling light fixtures for the Fellowship Hall.  The new ceiling tiles are installed except around the fixture areas.  The new fixtures must be installed and inspected before the ceiling can be finished.

March 7, 2022 Update:  Work is progressing well. The new ADA access ramps to the Sanctuary and Chapel will be installed very soon. New flooring has been installed in the Fellowship Hall, Kitchen and new Nursery.

February 16, 2022 Update:  Work on the Sanctuary is essentially complete. Work on the Fellowship Hall is progressing well.

February 7, 2022 Update:  Work on the Sanctuary will be completed this week.  Construction began on the Fellowship Hall today.

January 19, 2022 Update:  The contractor is working towards completion of the Sanctuary by the end of January.  The start date for the Fellowship Hall has moved up to from March 1 to February 7.

January 16, 2022 Update:  Work on the Sanctuary began Monday January 10, 2022.  At the end of the week, drywall crack repairs were nearly complete, most of the molding to cover AV wiring was installed, and the new AV booth was framed and drywalled.  On January 14, the contractor put  the Sanctuary back in working order for weekend services.

Earlier Updates: Loudoun County has approved plans and issued the building permit for Phase 3 Renovations of the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall.  Renovations  include improvements to the Sanctuary (new AV location, ceiling repairs/painting, carpet repair/cleaning) and for the Fellowship Hall new bathrooms, kitchen enhancements, new flooring, ceiling, lighting and a new upgraded nursery.   HLR Architects and Chamberlain Construction Company (General Contractor) and the Board of Trustees  have signed an updated “Repairs Scope of Work” for  undertaking and completing these renovations.

SANCTUARY:  The contractor has scheduled the Sanctuary renovation work to begin on January 11, 2022. The work is anticipated to take 3 weeks. The work will include patching ceiling cracks, painting the ceiling and walls, installation of crown molding to serve as a concealed conduit for the live streaming and AV wiring, construction of a new live streaming and AV control booth, repairs to Sanctuary carpet, and installation of two wheelchair ramps (one that will provide access to the front entry of the Sanctuary and one that will provide access to the Office Building entryway).  We’ve been assured that we will continue to have Sunday services in the Sanctuary during the construction. However, during work days Monday through Friday, the Sanctuary will not be available.

FELLOWSHIP HALL: The interior demolition and renovation work in the Fellowship Hall is now scheduled to begin on March 1, 2022. This work will take up to 7 weeks, during which time the Fellowship Hall will be closed and not available for use.  The work will include installation of new kitchen cabinets and countertops; new ceiling, lighting, flooring and painting throughout the facility; conversion of the existing bathrooms to become handicapped accessible; building a new table and chair storage area, and conversion of the existing music room and table storage room into a new nursery room. Prior to the scheduled work start date, all items currently stored in the kitchen cabinets and storage areas will need to be removed. Planning is now underway for identifying temporary storage space for items that must be moved and for providing temporary meeting space for those who regularly use the Fellowship Hall. Office Manager Lou Cartwright, along with incoming Chair of the Board of Trustees Dan Plank, and Linda Bridges Lay Leader, will be coordinating with those who have scheduled use of the Fellowship Hall and kitchen to find temporary meeting and storage space before the Fellowship Hall renovation work begins.

Renovation drawings are on on display in the Fellowship Hall and Narthex.
