Streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground. Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground. (Genesis 2:6-7a)
Dear PVUMC Family,
I am pastor Sophia. Summer has a way of reminding us how precious water really is. On a hot day, a cold glass of water can feel like pure grace. We often don’t think about water until we are thirsty. Perhaps the same is true of our souls.
Genesis 2:4–15 tells us the most beautiful creation story. Before God formed the first human being from the dust of the earth, God first watered the ground. It is a quiet but profound reminder that God prepares what we need before calling us into life and purpose. God is never careless with creation. God provides, nurtures, and then invites us to flourish.
The story also tells us that a river flowed out of the Garden of Eden to water the earth. God’s gifts were never meant to stay in one place. They were meant to flow outward, bringing life wherever they went. In the same way, God’s love, generosity, and grace are meant to overflow into our homes, our neighborhoods, our workplaces, and our community.
As the body of Christ, our church is called to be a channel through which God’s grace flows into the lives of others. That is why your prayers, your presence, your service, and your generosity matter so much. Together, we are making a difference in our community. As we continue God’s mission, I invite you to support our church through our Panera Bread Fundraiser on Friday, July 24, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., and our “$2 Miracle” campaign, which will help strengthen our general fund and to help cover unexpected costs needed to restore or maintain our old piano.
I wonder where you have seen God’s life-giving river this week. Who around you needs a word of hope, an act of kindness, or a reminder of God’s love? God’s grace often flows quietly, but it always brings life.
Thank you for your faithfulness, your generosity, and the many ways you share God’s love.
I look forward to worshiping with you as we celebrate the God who not only gives us life but also calls us to share that life with others. Come and be renewed by God’s grace. Your seat is reserved.
